What Do You Do?

“What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do.”  ~ John Ruskin

It always amazes me how some people speak. They talk a great deal about the Lord, about the faith, and about what we need to do for the faith. However, they do very little. As one of the old sayings would reflect, they “talk the talk” but do not “walk the walk”.

Jesus was not looking for talkers. He was looking for walkers. He wants people to live the faith, totally, completely, wholeheartedly. He does not want wishy washy faithful or lukewarm faithful. He wants people on fire and willing to do anything for Him. Those are the people, throughout the ages, who have changed the world and those are the people today who will change the world.

They say that “talk is cheap”. That is oh, so true. Talk will get you no where. Action is where it is at. We cannot tell people that we believe in God without following it up with action. We cannot say that the poor and needy deserve our aid if we are not willing to provide for them either materially or physically. We should not leave the matters of the faith to others and merely pay it lip service. We need to be included in the number of those who actually do for others, who are active in our faith and in our world.

Faith is caught, not taught. Our parents are often reminded of that when we talk about raising their children in the faith. They cannot tell their children that going to Mass is important. They need to show their children by their attendance and by their taking their children with them. They cannot say that lying is wrong if they teach their children to lie (telling the children to tell someone else that their parents are not home or having their children claim to be younger so that they can get the child’s discount, et cetera.)

You can think all you want and you can say all you want. If you do not do something about it, though, you are living a lie.

FAITH ACTION: Read all the scripture that you want, pray all the prayer cards that you desire, sit in silent contemplation as long as you wish; but, make sure that you also DO for the Lord today.
