Everything Begins Somewhere

“Even the strongest blizzards start with a single snowflake.”  ~Sara Raasch

Many times, people do not accomplish the work that has been required of them. Not because it is too difficult; but, because they think that it might be too difficult.  Once they get in the frame of mind that the work might be too hard, quite simply, they fail to begin.  They would rather not attempt the work at all be labeled a failure for not finishing what they set out to do.

Fear often immobilizes us.

Imagine what shape we would be in if God thought like us.  “I’m not going to let my Son be born today.  It’s too dangerous down there.  He will have too many enemies.  He will be doomed before He could even begin His work.”

Imagine what shape we would be in if Jesus thought like us.  “Go to Jerusalem to suffer and die at the hands of people mocking me every step of the way?  No way I’m going to do that.  I’ll just slip out quietly before anyone notices that I am gone.  They can try to find someone else to do all of this.”

God does not operate that way.  Why should we?  Oh, sure, we are weak, frail, mortal creatures.  But we have something that cannot be measured.  We have God at our side every step of the way ready to pitch in and help whenever we ask.

What we need to do is begin.  That’s all.  Just begin.  “Even the strongest blizzards start with a single snowflake.”  We cannot accomplish earth-shattering, earth-changing things all in a single moment.  However, we can initiate that change by a single action, by beginning.

Has there been something you felt God calling you to do that you have been putting off because of fear or doubt or confusion?  You do not have to accomplish the task all at once.  All you have to do is begin and watch God help you bring the task to completion.

Be that single snowflake.

Just begin.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God what He wants you to do today or in the near future.  Pray for the grace and courage to begin His work for you.
