Do Not Fear Failure

7 Apr

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. ~ Michael Jordan

So many times in life we are stifled because we fear to fail.  However, if we do not do something because we fear failure, we might never move forward in our lives, we might never accomplish anything.

Too many people set their sights way too low because they fear to fail.  I think Michael Jordan said it best when he related that his success came not from avoiding failure but from going through failure.

It you think about it, no one hits a home run the first time at bat.  It takes many swings to find the right motion and the right ball to hit.  No one catches a trophy-sized fish on a first attempt.  It takes plenty of sitting, casting, and trying of lures and bait before hitting the correct combination.

So it is in our faith lives.  None of us can perfect our prayer life if we do not first attempt as many different prayers as possible.  None of us can perfect a life of service unless we go through all the opportunities to serve.  None of us can perfect our relationship with God if we are not willing to risk and to trust.

If you have fallen, get back up.  If you have quit, begin again.  If you have faltered, rededicate yourself.  If you are unsure, take that leap of faith.

God is there.  He is not looking for perfection.  He is looking to see if we are willing to make the attempt.

FAITH ACTION:  Have you given up on any of your Lenten resolutions or other resolutions?  Determine if it would be a good idea to try once again.
