He Fulfills All Things

2 Feb

When the days were completed for their purification
according to the law of Moses,
Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem
to present him to the Lord,
just as it is written in the law of the Lord,
Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,
and to offer the sacrifice of
a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,
in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.  (Lk 2:22-24)

One of the wondrous things about our God is that He, truly, fulfills all of His promises.

From the very beginning, when we sinned and turned our back on God, He promised that He would save us from our sins.  This promise was fulfilled in His Son, Jesus Christ.

From the very beginning of His life here on earth, the evangelists were careful to tell us how God fulfilled all things.  Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.  Jesus was taken to the temple to be presented to God.  Why?  Because that was the law and His parents were going to make sure that they fulfilled their spiritual obligations.

Jesus would be seen to fulfill all the promises of the prophets, from the manner in which He lived His life to the manner in which He died and rose from the dead.

When God promises something, God delivers on that promise.

We, on the other hand, might not be so good about that.  We often make promises knowing full well that we are not going to keep them.  And for many, that does not even bother them.

If God is so lavish in His love to us and does so much for us, it would seem that would should at least try to reciprocate and do the same.

FAITH ACTION:  God fulfills all things.  As your reflect upon this wondrous mystery today, ask yourself if you have fulfilled all of your promises.  If not, ask God to help you do so.
