Do We Truly Trust The Lord?
Jesus told his disciples a parable
about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.
He said, “There was a judge in a certain town
who neither feared God nor respected any human being.
And a widow in that town used to come to him and say,
‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’
For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought,
‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being,
because this widow keeps bothering me
I shall deliver a just decision for her
lest she finally come and strike me.'”
The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.
Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones
who call out to him day and night?
Will he be slow to answer them?
I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.
But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” (Lk 18:1-8)
One of the definitions of faith is “belief that is not based on proof”.
There is an awful lot about our faith that cannot be proven. Philosophers throughout the ages have tried to “prove” the existence of God. There are many proofs out there.
Yet, as humans, our proof always comes down to what we can see, touch, feel, smell, taste.
We do not like to believe in things unseen.
Jesus addresses that in the Gospel when he questions whether or not there will be any faith found on earth when the Son of Man returns.
It’s a good question and one that, I believe, demands an answer.
Do we have faith in God?
Do we truly trust Him?
Our prayer life is a direct reflection of that faith and trust in God.
How much time do we spend in prayer? How much time do we spend reflecting upon the great love of God? How often do we turn to God for help? Are we willing to ask Him for assistance?
Or, do we leave it all to ourselves?
When the Son of Man comes and knocks on your door, will you recognize Him?
