Unswerving Attention

28 Sep

And another said, “I will follow you, Lord,
but first let me say farewell to my family at home.”
Jesus answered him, “No one who sets a hand to the plow
and looks to what was left behind is fit for the Kingdom of God.”  (Lk 9:61-62)

The entire Gospel today is about unswerving attention.  Jesus wants us to give Him our all.

I think that is only fair since God gave His all to us in the form of His Son, Jesus and Jesus gave Himself to us completely on the wood of the cross.

The reason for doing so?

Love.

God loved us so much that He gave us His only Son.

That is the kind of love that God asks in return.

Complete, total, unconditional, unselfish love.

It is a good thing that God knows our humanity and that we have a hard time giving ourselves to that kind of level.

However, even though He knows our weakness, He still challenges us to give of ourselves completely.

Do you want to be considered “fit” to enter the Kingdom of God?

Put your hand to the plow and don’t look back.

FAITH ACTION:  Pray the following prayer today and try to do it:

Lord Jesus, I give you my hands to do your work. I give you my feet to go your way. I give you my tongue to speak your words. I give you my mind that you may think in me. I give you my spirit that you may pray in me. Above all, I give you my heart that you may love in me your Father and all mankind. I give you my whole self that you may grow in me, so that it is you, Lord Jesus, who live and work and pray in me.
