Prioritize

21 Aug

Someone asked [Jesus],
“Lord, will only a few people be saved?”
He answered them,
“Strive to enter through the narrow gate,
for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter
but will not be strong enough.”  (Lk 13:23-24)

It never ceases to amaze me.

I have met many parents over the years who carry their child’s “calendar of events” with them.  Everything is listed in that calendar including play dates, recitals, and courses that will help the child to get accepted to college.

Did you read “play date” correctly?

You sure did.

It never ceases to amaze me because some of the calendars that I have seen belong to children who are three or four years old.

Already, at that young age, their parents are making plans for them.  God help them if they fall behind on their calendared items!

We do all sorts of things to get ahead in this world.  We make many plans.  We go to many events.  All to ensure ourselves a better position in school, in business, in life.

That, however, is not the thing to worry about.

We should be planning what we need to do to enter eternal life.

That was the question posed to Jesus.

His response?

Focus on the narrow road, the narrow gate.  For, if we miss that, none of the things that got us ahead here on earth will ever count.

FAITH ACTION:  Sit down and, either mentally or using a piece of paper, quickly list all the things that you are planning on doing today.  How many of them have to do with Jesus or the faith?  Take time to prioritize your life today.
