Be Humble As He Is Humble

8 Aug

Praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
His majesty is above earth and heaven.  (Ps 148:13)

We have this “thing” where we think that we are the awesome ones.  We strive and struggle, each day, to be the best.  It is ingrained in us.  It is a part of our human nature.  Because of it, we do not like to admit that someone else is better.

Therein lies one of the problems we often have with God.  It takes a lot of humility to admit that He, alone, is exalted.  To do so makes us admit that we do not have an “exalted” status.

Ouch.  That hurts.

The sooner that we realize that God is the one who is exalted, that God is the one who is in charge, that God’s will and ways are what should be embraced, the better off we will become.

The beautiful thing is that God does not hold that against us.

We probably all know someone who feels that he or she is the “exalted” one.  That person often lords their authority over others in such a way as to make it extremely uncomfortable to be around.  We may tend to avoid that type of person.

God, on the other hand, may be exalted to the skies.  Yet He is loving enough and humble enough not to be threatening.  He is so humble, as a matter of fact, and so loving that He sent His only Son to us.

That Son was so humble and loving that He died for us.

No one can top that.
