Take The Narrow Road

21 Jun

“Enter through the narrow gate;
for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction,
and those who enter through it are many.
How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life.
And those who find it are few.”  (Mt 7:13-14)

“Come on, Mom.  Let me go.  Everyone else is going.”

“If everyone else jumped in Lake Michigan, would you, too?”

Yep.  I, like you, have fond memories of my parents — including the memories of begging them to allow me to do something, to go somewhere, to dress a certain way, all because everyone else was doing the same thing.

Mom would always respond with the famous, “If everyone else…” argument.

That was it.

It one phrase, we would be overruled.

Jesus is speaking the same thought to His people.

There are many people on the road to destruction.  If we want that, all we have to do is follow the crowd.

However, if we want eternal life, we have to follow a much narrower road, away from the crowd, toward the Lord.

FAITH ACTION:  Take a moment to examine the motive for your plans today.  Are you about to do something merely because everybody else is doing it?  Will accomplishing your plan(s) lead you closer to the Lord or take you further from the Lord?  Modify your plans if you realize you are making the wrong decision this day.
