The Heart Of Mary

4 Jun

He went down with them and came to Nazareth,
and was obedient to them;
and his mother kept all these things in her heart.  (Lk 2:51)

“You broke my heart.”

“I can feel it in my heart.”

“I’m telling you this from the heart.”

We use “heart” quite often to indicate the very depth of our being and/or emotions.

It is from that same kind of understanding that we have fostered devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus (which we celebrated yesterday) and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the feast we celebrate today.

Mary was given to us as our mother by her Son, Jesus, as He hung on the cross.

Our mother, Mary, stands by us, watching us and interceding for us to her Son if we but implore.

If your devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is not very firm, you might want to take some time today to reflect upon her life and her example and to ask her to bring your intentions to her Son.  She would never refuse to do so.

FAITH ACTION:  Pray the prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

O Most Blessed Mother,
heart of love, heart of mercy,
ever listening, caring, consoling,
hear our prayer.

As your child, I implore your
intercession with Jesus your Son.
Receive with understanding and
compassion the petitions I place
before you today.

I am comforted in knowing your heart
is ever open to those who ask for
your prayer. I trust to your gentle
care and intercession, those whom I
love and who are sick or lonely or
hurting.

Help me, Holy Mother, to bear
my burdens in this life until I may
share eternal life and peace with
God forever.
Amen.

Please pray for Nate Edquist and Gregory Bim-Merle.  These two men will be ordained transitional deacons for the Diocese of Gary this morning at Holy Angels Cathedral and, with the grace of God, will be ordained priests in May of 2017.

Please pray, as well, for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life.
