Consider That You Might Be Wrong

15 Apr

On his journey, as he was nearing Damascus,
a light from the sky suddenly flashed around him.
He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him,
“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”
He said, “Who are you, sir?”
The reply came, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
Now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do.”  (Acts 9:3-6)

The one thing you have to credit Saul:  he was most certainly zealous.

“Breathing murderous threats”, he went to the high priest to seek authorization to arrest and bring back anyone who claimed to follow Christ.  Saul “knew” one thing and that one thing was that Christianity was a threat.  It was a threat to his world — his way of life — and Saul was willing to do anything he could to erase that threat.

What he did not count upon, of course, was the possibility that he might be wrong.

That pretty much sums up any of our lives.

We go about rather determined and, rarely, we do not give any thought to the possibility that we might be wrong.

When we go about our lives so cavalierly, we end up engaging in sin.  When we do, we hurt our Lord.

Hopefully, it won’t take getting knocked off a horse, as it did for Saul, before we open our eyes and turn our lives around.

FAITH ACTION:  Spend some time today reflecting upon the choices you make.  Do you make them after consulting with the Lord or do you make them without consulting the Lord?
