Do Not Flee — The Lord Is With You

30 Mar

With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him,
but he vanished from their sight.
Then they said to each other,
“Were not our hearts burning within us
while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?”  (Lk 24:31-32)

The Octave of Easter continues

In today’s Gospel, we read about some of the disciples “hightailing it out of town”.  They wanted to get as far away as possible so that they would not be arrested and put to death as Jesus was.

On their way, the encountered the Lord without knowing that it was Him.

He questioned them and spoke to them.  He opened their hearts to the meaning of the scriptures and how they applied to the Messiah.

Then, in the midst of a meal, their eyes were opened as He broke the bread — just as He had done at the Last Supper.

They acknowledged that their hearts were burning within as Jesus spoke to them and they rushed back to tell the apostles about their encounter.

We often flee the Lord as well.  We might run from our responsibilities in the faith or other matters.

Jesus comes to us, speak with us, opens our hearts to His love.

FAITH ACTION:  Spend some time with the Lord in silence today.  Let Him speak to you.
