Do You Believe That He Can Do What You Need?
As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out,
“Son of David, have pity on us!”
When he entered the house,
the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them,
“Do you believe that I can do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they said to him.
Then he touched their eyes and said,
“Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
And their eyes were opened. (Mt 9:27-30a)
There are several instances in the Gospels where Jesus states the importance of our belief before He can do anything. “Your faith has healed you,” “Your faith has saved you,” and “Let it be done for you according to your faith” are all popular (and regular) sayings of Jesus.
We always talk about the all-powerful God. Yet Jesus seems to indicate that, without faith, He can do nothing. Jesus needs us to respond to Him before He can work in us and for us.
Faith in the Lord is vitally important.
Do we believe that the Lord can help us? Or do we sometimes bring our needs to Him “hoping” that He “might” be able to help?
Faith and trust are bound one to another. If we do not have faith that God can help us and if we do not trust Him to help, there will be nothing that He can do. If we do not have faith and trust, we will end up trying to do things on our own or resorting to others to provide for us. That is very risky to our own spiritual life.
So, what is your answer? Do you believe that the Lord can do for you whatever it is you truly need?
