Treasure God’s Marvels

Remember the marvels the Lord has done!  (Ps 105:5a)

Remember!

Remembering is so important.

Students struggle to remember when it comes time for quizzes and tests.  They need to recall the material so that they can get good grades.  They often use memory “tricks” to help them think about the moment that their teachers said certain things.

When we meet someone whom we have not seen for a long time, we “take a trip down memory lane”, remembering all the things that we used to do together, all the conversations that we had, all the things that we shared in common.  For a while, we feel as if we have gone back in time.

Throughout the month of November, we remember family and friends who have died and gone before us.  We think of them, we share their stories, we keep them alive in our hearts.

Memories are important to us because they keep us connected with our past even as we live our present and look toward the future.  They are the things that give us comfort and hope.

Sometimes, our memories are not so pleasant.  We would rather not recall certain events.  We would rather forget what has happened to us, what we have done, what we have left undone.

Some of our memories include things that have been done for us by God.  We may have been in a tight spot and God helped us out.  We may have been involved in a terrible incident or accident and come out unscathed.  We may have had profound experiences of the closeness of God while in prayer or celebrating sacraments.

We need to keep those memories alive because they fuel us, they keep us going, they help us to realize the very presence of God.

Remember the marvels the Lord has done for you.  He did them solely out of love:  for you!

FAITH ACTION:  In quiet contemplation today, try to recall the many things that God has done for you throughout your life.  As you recall, do not forget to thank Him for His presence and His love.
