Nurture That Seed

28 Jan

[Jesus said to the crowds,] “Hear this! A sower went out to sow.
And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path,
and the birds came and ate it up.
Other seed fell on rocky ground where it had little soil.
It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep.
And when the sun rose, it was scorched and it withered for lack of roots.
Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it
and it produced no grain.
And some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit.
It came up and grew and yielded thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.”
He added, “Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.”  (Mk 4:3-9)

God gives us wonderful gifts.  He has given us the gift of life.  He has given us the gift of His Son, Jesus, who died for us and rose from the dead to destroy death and restore life.  He has also given to us the gift of faith.

That seed, planted in our hearts, has been given to us to tend and nurture and grow so that we could produce much spiritual fruit.

The gift, freely given by God, is ours to do with as we wish.  We can accept it willingly and joyfully.  We can ignore it.  We can reject it.

The choice is completely ours.

However, with the choice comes ramifications.  If we choose to nourish that seed and produce good fruit, we will be found pleasing to God.  If we reject that seed of faith, we will find ourselves on a path that leads away from God and His Kingdom.  That path will lead us to ruin and perdition.

Cherish the gift given to you by God.  Cherish it.  Nourish it.  Cultivate it.  And when you produce fruit, share the fruits of your faith with those who most need to hear about a loving God.

Imagine the loving, proud smile on God’s face when He sees you produce a hundred-fold.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God to help you to trust in Him so that the faith He has planted in your heart may take root and grow.
