He Has Also Chosen You
Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted
and they came to him.
He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles,
that they might be with him
and he might send them forth to preach
and to have authority to drive out demons. (Mk 3:13-15)
Today’s gospel speaks about the call of the apostles, the twelve that Jesus named to have a special relationship with Him. They were to be the people who would be most responsible for the spreading of His message.
As He called them, Jesus also gave His followers special graces to do their “job”. They were to proclaim the Good News, to preach and teach, and to heal many people of all that afflicted them including those who were possessed by demons.
Jesus was serious about His invitation which was why He provided His followers with the many gifts that they needed.
Jesus still calls His people. He calls you and me to continue the mission given to the apostles and disciples long ago. The mission has been the same throughout the ages: heal the sick, raise the dead, announce a year of favor from the Lord. Teach and preach. Love and forgive. Show others that God is the most important person in our lives.
These are things that all of us are called to do. We might feel as if these tasks are impossible. We might believe that we are not capable of accomplishing them. But, with the Lord’s help, all things are possible. It was possible for the apostles and disciples, it was possible for the saints throughout the ages, and it is possible for us.
Trust in Him. Say yes. What a difference you can make in this world.
FAITH ACTION: In prayer today, ask the Lord what He wants of you. As you discern His invitation, ask for the grace to respond to His call.
