God is not unjust so as to overlook your work
and the love you have demonstrated for his name
by having served and continuing to serve the holy ones.
We earnestly desire each of you to demonstrate the same eagerness
for the fulfillment of hope until the end,
so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who,
through faith and patience, are inheriting the promises. (Heb 6:10-12)
One of the things that we absolutely cannot stand is when someone does not recognize the work that we have done or the progress that we have made. The need to be noticed began at a very early time in our lives and it is a need that we cling to throughout life.
God knows that about us.
St. Paul apparently knew that as well. Which is why he told the Church in Corinth that God knew what they had done. He would not overlook their hard work. He would reward them for it.
However, if they were going to live as God’s holy people, they could not rest on their laurels. They would need to continue to serve the Lord. The best way to do that, according to St. Paul, was to follow the example of the leaders of the faith. He encouraged them to be “imitators of those who, through faith and patience, are inheriting the promises.”
Remember, God is a God of promises — not just promises made; but, promises delivered. If we are to know that personally, we need to follow the example of the saints of old.
FAITH ACTION: Ask God to give you the grace that you need today not only to imitate the saints of old but to do so in such a manner as to inspire others to follow the Lord.
