Like Us In All Things But Sin
Since the children share in blood and Flesh,
Jesus likewise shared in them,
that through death he might destroy the one
who has the power of death, that is, the Devil,
and free those who through fear of death
had been subject to slavery all their life. (Heb 2:14-15)
One of the most hopeful things that we can cling to is that Jesus is true man. Yes, He is also true God. However, as a man, He knows our human condition. He knows what it feels like to “be in our skin”. He knows what it means to be hurt, to be hungry, to be needy, to be lonely. He knows our ups and downs. He knows our highs and lows. He knows all of these because He experienced them Himself. The only thing He did not participate in is sin.
Knowing all of our human frailty, He understands us. His love and compassion for us are real and come from His heart.
And because He shared in our humanity and died on the cross, He was able to destroy the grip of sin in death and give us the chance to rise with Him to newness of life.
Every time we look at a crucifix, we should not see loss. We should see incredible love and eternal gain.
Jesus won the victory for us.
Let us thank Him by living for Him this day.
FAITH ACTION: Take some time to sit in silent prayer with a crucifix present, either on the wall or in your hands. Pray for all those whose humanity appears to be crushing them, that they may derive hope in Jesus’ humanity.
