Walk In His Paths

1 Dec

Come, let us climb the Lord’s mountain,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
That he may instruct us in his ways,
and we may walk in his paths.  (Is 2:3a)

Yesterday, we began our Advent journey, a journey that is designed to help us prepare for Christmas.  We were reminded that Christmas is a celebration of the two-fold comings of Christ:  the time when He came to us in history by His birth as a Child and the time when He will come again in His glory.

It is that second coming of Jesus for which we must all be prepared.  When He calls us, there will be no second chances given.  We must be found ready.  If not, we face dire consequences.

Use this season wisely.  Pray more.  Go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  Visit the church more often.  Take time to draw closer to God.

Try to get as close to God as God wishes to be close to you.

And don’t wait for tomorrow.

Begin today.

Right now, as a matter of fact!

FAITH ACTION:  Reflect upon the Advent Hymn, On Jordan’s Bank

On Jordan’s bank, the Baptist’s cry
Announces that the Lord is nigh;
Awake, and hearken, for he brings
Glad tidings of the King of kings!

Then cleansed be every breast from sin;
Make straight the way for God within;
Prepare we in our hearts a home
Where such a mighty Guest may come.

For Thou art our Salvation, Lord,
Our Refuge, and our great Reward.
Without Thy grace we waste away,
Like flowers that wither and decay.

All praise, eternal Son, to Thee
Whose advent sets Thy people free,
Whom, with the Father, we adore,
And Holy Ghost, forevermore.
