What Do You Love?

30 Dec

Do not love the world or the things of the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world,
sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a pretentious life,
is not from the Father but is from the world.
Yet the world and its enticement are passing away.
But whoever does the will of God remains forever.  (1 Jn 2:15-17)

Do you want to be super-happy and gratified and fulfilled today, right now, at all cost?  Well, the world may have just the thing in store.  As a matter of fact, the world practically advertises that it has just the thing for each and every one of us if we are willing to give ourselves over completely to the world.

The only problem, however, is that the benefits of the world are short term.  “Short term”, by the way, is a very relative definition.  Short term may mean days and it may mean years.  It may mean our entire lives, for that matter.  However, once our life is over, the world cannot offer anything else to us except a “bed” in which our bodies will lie.

After that moment, eternity takes over.

And if we did not do the things necessary to let the Lord know that He was more important to us than the trappings of the world, we may find ourselves in huge trouble.  “Huge” meaning “Forever!”

So, what do you really want, something that can please you for a short period of time but something that, ultimately, will lead you away from God?  Or do you want to do everything possible to please God so that you can live with Him forever?

The choice belongs to each and every one of us.

Make your choice today.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask God for the strength to reject the lures of the world so as to have the possibility of living with Him forever in heaven.
