He Can And Will Help Us
Jesus said to the crowds:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” (Mt 11:28-30)
There are times in all of our lives where we feel as if we have “hit the wall”. We feel as if we have no energy to go on. We feel as if we are “done for”.
That feeling takes place in many of our worldly concerns. We may think that we will not be able to pass a test or graduate. We may believe that we will never receive the job we want or secure that promotion. We may feel as if we will never get ahead.
That feeling takes place in our spiritual lives as well. We may think that we will never develop the gifts we need to keep focused on the path to the Kingdom. We may feel as if we will not be able to keep from sinning. We may believe that there is no hope for us, that we will never see the Lord.
Jesus understands.
He understands, first of all, because He is God. He is all-knowing.
He understands, secondly, because He is a man. He was born into our humanity and He knows our cares and concerns.
That has got to help us, knowing that God understands completely. We may not understand, though.
How can the Lord’s yoke be lighter than ours? Didn’t He suffer and die for us? Didn’t he endure much more than we ever will? Do we really want to take that yoke upon our shoulders?
We are not taking on the pain and agony of the Lord. We are taking on a yoke of love. After all, that is what Jesus was all about. He bound Himself to us out of love. His yoke was our well-being. Jesus wants to take upon Himself all that can keep us from Him, including our every care and concern.
Take love upon your shoulders and learn from the Lord this day!
FAITH ACTION: Bring to mind all your cares and concerns. Make a firm resolve to hand them over to the Lord and let Him bear your burdens.
