Live In The Freedom Of God

13 Oct

For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm
and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.  (Gal 5:1)

Sin.

It is a pervasive reality.

Sin is insidious.  It gets into every crack, every crevice of our lives.  It generally begins small and, before you know it, we often find ourselves so wrapped up in sin that we do not remember how we got to that point.

The action and result of sin was first demonstrated to us in the Adam and Eve story.  Throughout the Old and New Testaments, we read accounts of the sins of many different people — even prophets and kings — and learn of the consequences of their actions.  It is never a pretty story.

God knew that sin would warp us and take us away from Him.  That was why, at the very beginning, He promised to send a redeemer to His people, someone who would help them break from the shackles of their sin so as to live in newness of life.

That someone, as we all know, is Jesus Christ.

Jesus spoke to His people about the consequences of sin.  He also spoke to His people about the overwhelming power of God, a power that was greater than sin, greater, even, than the author of sin and death.

Jesus destroyed sin and death when He died on the cross and rose again on the third day.

He made it possible for us to choose between sin and death or freedom and life.

Break free.  Remain free.  Live in the newness of Christ!

FAITH ACTION:  Pray for all those who are slaves to sin, that they may break free from the grasp of the evil one and return to the Lord.
