Go Ahead And Ask

9 Oct

I tell you, ask and you will receive;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives;
and the one who seeks, finds;
and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.  (Lk 11:9-10)

The great lesson of today is: ASK!

Perhaps a greater lesson, though, would be: receive whatever it is the Lord desires to give to you in response to your request.

Many times, people lament that the Lord “did not hear” them when they poured out their hearts to Him in petition.  That would not exactly be true.  Many times, the Lord does hear us and does respond to our needs.  However, He responds to us in ways that we were not thinking when we made our request.

A crazy example that I often use is the person who dropped hints to his parents over and over again that he wanted “reliable transportation” for his birthday.  Of course, in his mind, reliable transportation equated to a car of some kind.  He was totally unimpressed — and not amused — when, to his dismay, he opened the garage door at his parent’s bidding to find a brand new bicycle waiting for him.

He wanted reliable transportation.  He got reliable transportation.  Just not the kind of transportation he wanted.

God knows what we want.  God knows what we desire.  However, God also knows what we truly need.

He is not going to give us anything that will harm us.  He blesses us richly and, if we are open to His gifts, we will find out — in time — that we receive exactly what is best for us.

So, don’t be afraid to ask God for anything.  But, at the same time, be willing to accept what God has to offer because God, indeed, does know best.

FAITH ACTION:  With confidence and without fear, ask the Lord for whatever you need today.  Be humble enough to accept whatever He gives you in response.
