Just What — Or Whom — Do You Treasure?

27 Jul

Jesus said to his disciples:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field,
which a person finds and hides again,
and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant
searching for fine pearls.
When he finds a pearl of great price,
he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”  (Mt 13:44-46)

We chase around our entire lives looking for the things that we value, be they people, jobs, or objects of all kinds.

Oftentimes, we prioritize poorly.  We place things ahead of people as well as things and people ahead of God.

We need to remember that God values us immensely.  He has placed us in such an important part of His life that He would give us His only Son to set us free and bring us back to Him.

As much as He loves us and values us, He wishes that we would value Him.

He wants to be as important in our lives as we are in His.

Finding the Lord and developing a relationship with the Lord is an incredible prize, one that we should be willing to go all out for.  As the merchant who found a pearl of great price sold everything that he had to purchase the one pearl, we should be able to get rid of all the clutter in our lives in order to cling to the one prize:  God Himself.

FAITH ACTION:  Spend a significant chunk of time with the Lord in prayer today so that, merely by taking that amount of time, you can let Him know how much you value Him.
