Kindly Define “Smooth”

17 Jul

The way of the just is smooth;
the path of the just you make level.
Yes, for your way and your judgments, O Lord,
we look to you;
Your name and your title
are the desire of our souls.  (Is 26:7-9)

Piece of cake.

Like falling off a log.

Like knife through butter.

Like shooting fish in a barrel.

A no-brainer.

Yep.  These are all sayings that we often use to equate “no problem” when speaking about something.  I guess we could also use the word “smooth”.

There may be times when we talk about something being a piece of cake and others look at us as if we are nuts because, to them, it’s not a piece of cake at all.  To them, what we are talking about might seem extremely difficult if not absurd.

We might think that about today’s reading as well.

Isaiah states that the way of the just is smooth; the path of the just God makes level.

How many times have we struggled, truly struggled to do the will of God?  It was not that we were unjust.  We might have been very just in what we were attempting.  But, the way certainly did not appear very smooth or level.  It appeared monstrously rough and high as a mountain.

Remember, the path is narrow as well and fraught with danger.  If we think that the way is not smooth and the path is not level, we just might need to take a good hard look at ourselves, at our lives, and where we are going.

Why?

We might have stepped off of the path without even knowing it.

Keep your eyes open today!

FAITH ACTION:  Ask the Lord for the grace that you need to keep your feet planted firmly on His path and not your own.
