Need A Reason To Listen?

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’
will enter the Kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.”  (Mt 7:21)

Advertisements abound on television about products and programs designed to make you your own boss.  You can be the one in charge.  You will have to answer to no one else.  You will be the top person.

That appears to be the driving force for people in today’s world: to be “the one” to whom everyone else answers.  To a certain extent, we all want to be independent.  We want to be the one who decides our lives.  We want to be in control.

Because of that, we often balk against the idea of a God who is in control of our lives.  We do not want to consider doing something that might not bring us recognition or reward.

Jesus calls us to faithfulness and trust.  Sometimes, that call is not an easy one.  He may want us to do something that is difficult or unpleasant in our own eyes.

God knows what He is doing.

What God wants is our cooperation.

Life would go much more smoothly for all of us if we not only said that God comes first but actually practiced that.  God’s will should be of paramount importance to us.  We should want to know that we have pleased God while here on earth.

Nothing else, really, should matter.

FAITH ACTION:  Ask the Father to show you His will for you today and to give you the grace and courage to embrace it.
