“Remember the word I spoke to you,
‘No slave is greater than his master.’
If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.” (Jn 15:20)
“Can’t I ever just catch a break?!”
That phrase has been uttered in one way, shape, or form by every one of us at one time or other in our lives. There is a certain sense of “entitlement”, if you will, that Christians often feel.
We know that it is a challenge to follow Jesus. When we accept the challenge and do all that we can to remain faithful to the Lord, we find it incomprehensible that we should have to struggle or suffer on top of everything else that we are doing.
Yet, that is the way of the Christian because that was the way of Jesus Christ.
He was faithful to His Father.
That did not mean that He was exempt from suffering. Far from it. Because He was faithful to His Father, it was as if He had a bull’s eye painted upon His person.
If we are faithful to our God, we will have a bull’s eye on us as well. The world will see us, will target us, and will do everything that it can to inflict suffering upon us.
Remember, as it happens, that we are in good company!
FAITH ACTION: Pray for those undergoing persecution for being followers of Christ.
