The Lord Bless You And Keep You

1 Jan

The Lord said to Moses:
“Speak to Aaron and his sons and tell them:
This is how you shall bless the Israelites.
Say to them:
The Lord bless you and keep you!
The Lord let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you!
The Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace!
So shall they invoke my name upon the Israelites,
and I will bless them.”  (Nm 6:22-27)

We begin the New Year with a blessing since that I what God always does for us.  God taught Moses how to bless the people, invoking His name, and promised Moses that He would bless the people abundantly.

Throughout the ages, God had blessed His people.

In the fullness of time, He sent a most wonderful blessing to us:  His very own Son, born of the Virgin Mary.

Since Mary is the Mother of Jesus and Jesus is the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, we call her the Mother of God and it is her feast that we celebrate today.

However, we celebrate much more than Mary.

We celebrate God’s love for us all.  A love that knows no limits, a love that is total, complete, unconditional.

It is very appropriate to remember that this day, as we begin a New Year.  Let us do all that we can to make sure that God is a part of our daily lives this year.  Let us stray less, pray more, and love constantly.

FAITH ACTION:  As you pray today, ask the Lord’s blessings upon you and your family and friends.  Trust that He will, indeed, bless you richly.

A Happy and Healthy New Year to you and yours!
