What Do You Believe?
As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out,
“Son of David, have pity on us!”
When he entered the house,
the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them,
“Do you believe that I can do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they said to him.
Then he touched their eyes and said,
“Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
And their eyes were opened. (Mt 9:27-30a)
There are many people who “pray” to the Lord. They petition the Lord for all sorts of things.
However, in doing so, they are merely “covering their bases.” They do not really believe that what they are asking for will be granted or done for them.
Faith — belief — is a most necessary ingredient in our interaction with God.
If we petition God but have no belief, what can be done?
Over and over again, we read in the Gospels about Jesus healing people or even raising people from the dead. The reason that He did so? The faith of those asking for His intervention. “Let it be done for you according to your faith.” “Go, your faith has healed you.” “It is because of your faith that this has been done.”
The faith of the people was credited to them and the Lord was able to work.
If we do not believe, nothing can be done for us.
FAITH ACTION: Before you go to the Lord in prayer this day, ask yourself if you believe He can help you? If you are not quite sure, maybe your prayer today simply needs to be, “Lord, increase my faith.”
