Do Not Live In Sin

23 Oct

Sin must not reign over your mortal bodies
so that you obey their desires.
For sin is not to have any power over you,
since you are not under the law but under grace.  (Rom 6:12,14)

The fact of the matter is our lives are a constant struggle.  We are called to live under the grace that is showered upon us by God.

However, grace is something that is unseen.  Its effects are often not recognized by us.

The world, on the other hand, is something tangible.  We see it, feel it, touch it, taste it, embrace it.  Being a tactile people, we are often more “comfortable” with the seen than with the unseen.

But, embracing the seen, the worldly, leads us to be very uncomfortable.

Why?

Because we know that we are doing wrong.

We know that we are sinning.

However, the desire to sin often overwhelms us.

That is why we need to rely upon the grace of God.  We need to turn to God in our weakness and ask for His help.  It is waiting there for us if we but ask.

Doing so, though, means leaning on the unseen.  We cannot see, feel, touch, taste, or embrace “grace”.  It is a mystery to us.  It causes us confusion.  We know that it is there for us but, if we are living in sin, we fail to receive it.

Sin should not have any power over us and will not have any power over us if we turn ourselves over to the Lord.

The wonderful mystery about that is that it is never too late.  Whenever we step away from sin and take that first step toward the Lord, He is there, waiting for us, showering us with grace upon grace to live His life.

FAITH ACTION:  If you are frozen in a way of life that is leading you to sin, ask the Lord to give you the grace needed to reject sin and to return to Him.
