How Will You Serve?
Jesus appointed seventy-two other disciples
whom he sent ahead of him in pairs
to every town and place he intended to visit.
He said to them,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.” (Lk 10:1-2)
Laborers are very important. Without them, the work would never get done.
Proclaiming the Good News is work.
Without laborers in the Church, the message of the Lord may not be proclaimed to the ends of the earth as He hopes.
We are important to the mission of the Lord.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus appointed an additional seventy-two disciples to prepare His way to every town and place that He intended to visit. As they did so, they were also encouraged to pray for even more people to accept the mission to go out into the world.
The proclamation of the Word is not something that any one person has the corner of the market on. We are all called to go into the world to proclaim the Good News.
Jesus want us to respond to His call. He does not want us to leave it to someone else. He wants us — each and every one of us.
So often, we leave things to others.
It cannot be that way.
We are all an integral part of God’s plan. We are all necessary. We are all called to be laborers for the harvest.
