What Will Be Your Choice?

17 Aug

If it does not please you to serve the Lord,
decide today whom you will serve,
the gods your fathers served beyond the River
or the gods of the Amorites in whose country you are dwelling.
As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.  (Jos 24:15)

Choices.

Our lives are filled with choices.

What will we eat?  How shall we dress?  Where shall we go?  What are we going to do?  With whom will we interact?  And the list goes on and on.

Many times, as we make our choices, we forget the most important choice:  are we going to serve the Lord today?

We really do have to ask that question because the answer to it will shape our day as well.

If we say that we are going to serve the Lord, we might be more gentle with someone we would rather go up against.  If we choose to serve the Lord, we might look out for the need of the poor person rather than look down our nose at that person.

Joshua posed that same question to the people of Israel.

Taking over the leadership from Moses, Joshua was just as frustrated with the people.  They were straying and causing the community much sorrow.

Joshua posed the question to them as to whom they choose to serve:  the Lord or the pagan gods of the lands in which they were dwelling.

Joshua lived centuries ago yet the question is just as vital to be asked today:  Decide today whom you will serve.

FAITH ACTION:  Decide not only whether you will serve the Lord; but, also, how you will serve the Lord this day.
