We Are Wounded All

14 Jun

We hold this treasure in earthen vessels,
that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us.
We are afflicted in every way, but not constrained;
perplexed, but not driven to despair;
persecuted, but not abandoned;
struck down, but not destroyed;
always carrying about in the Body the dying of Jesus,
so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body.  (2 Cor 4:7-10)

I have struggled with many things for many years.  Some, like my weight, have been very obvious, an “external” that anyone could see.  Others, my internal struggles, may be something that only I and my spiritual director know, or those with whom I have shared them.  (Things like my chronic struggle against perfectionism which often colors my attitude toward self and others.)

I know that I am not alone in this regard.

All of us have weaknesses that are very visible and other weakness with which we struggle in private.

The good news is that God knows us to be fragile, earthen vessels.  Within these vessels, we have the opportunity to carry Christ broken for us not only on the cross but in the Eucharist.

Jesus knows our frailty.  He knows our humanity.  He knows our struggles.

He does not shy away from us because we are weak.

Instead, He pours Himself out for us.

Let us manifest the Lord in our lives this day.

FAITH ACTION:  In prayer, ask God for the grace and strength that you need to continue to fight the good fight.
