Is He Sending You?

4 Mar

When Elisha, the man of God,
heard that the king of Israel had torn his garments,
he sent word to the king:
“Why have you torn your garments?
Let him come to me and find out
that there is a prophet in Israel.”  (2 Kgs 5:8)

In today’s reading, we heard that the King of Aram sent his servant, Naaman, to the King of Israel with a letter requesting the King of Israel to effect a cure for Naaman, who had leprosy.

The King of Israel tore the letter up in fear.

This was the worst thing that could happen to him, the King thought.

After all, when the King of Aram found out that the King of Israel could not cure Naaman, war would break out between the two powers and many would die.  The King of Israel could even lose his kingdom.

That is what happens when we think superficially, materialistically, selfishly.

This was not a spiritual matter to the King of Israel, it was about might and power.

Elisha, a prophet of God, sent word to the King of Israel, chastising him for his lack of faith and instructing him to send Naaman to him.

In short, Naaman became cured and became a convert.  He would no longer worship the pagan gods of his land.  He would worship the Lord, the God of the Israelites.

Do we judge selfishly?  Do we look at things temporally?

Or, do we look at the big picture and remember to include God?

Do we know others who are struggling or wavering in their faith?

God may be calling us, like Elisha, to encourage them.

We may not be kings; but, we sure can be prophets!

FAITH ACTION:  The Lord uses other people to proclaim His Good News.  Do not be afraid to be a prophet today.
