He Calls. What Will Your Answer Be?

14 Jan

As he passed by the Sea of Galilee,
he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea;
they were fishermen.
Jesus said to them,
“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Then they left their nets and followed him.
He walked along a little farther
and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.
They too were in a boat mending their nets.
Then he called them.
So they left their father Zebedee in the boat
along with the hired men and followed him.  (Mk 1:16-20)

The call of the apostles has always amazed me.

How wonderful it must have been for those people to see Jesus, to hear His call, and to be able to respond.

Then I think about what that call may have meant.

It may have been hard for them to hear, after all.  Let’s face it, they were established in other “careers” at the time.  They didn’t need to look around for anything else.  They were comfortable.

And yet, the Lord called and they responded.

It is the same for us.

We are all in different walks of life.  We are all in different careers.  Yet we share one common denominator:  we have all been called by our Lord to discipleship.

The apostles were called and had to make a choice.

They chose to follow the Lord.

We are called and have to make a choice.

What will your choice be?

FAITH ACTION:  Try to discern how the Lord is calling you to faithfulness today.  Ask Him for the grace that you need to respond appropriately and enthusiastically.
