We have this confidence in him
that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (1 Jn 5:14)
Let’s make this safe and talk about people “out there”.
If we do that, we do not have to admit that we are often those people out there!
People out there often ask for things from God and then complain because “He didn’t hear them,” or “He didn’t respond to them,” or “He didn’t give them want they wanted.”
Does God hear us?
Does God respond to us?
Is the answer from God what we want?
Not all the time.
After all, if we ask God for something that is bad for us, do you really think God will “hear” us, that He will give us that which is bad? Of course, He won’t.
God desires good for us, not evil. He desires that we be happy, not sad. He looks out for us.
John states in his letter, if we ask for anything “according to His will” God will hear us.
The important distinction: according to His will.
The next time that you are tempted to say, “God didn’t hear me,” ask yourself the question: “Was what I asked for according to His will?
FAITH ACTION: Pray the Our Father slowly and reverently. Very slowly, emphasize the part: Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done!
