“Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed,
you will say to this mountain,
“Move from here to there,” and it will move.
Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Mt 17:20)
Jesus constantly challenged his disciples to have faith, to trust in God.
Some days were better than others.
The same applies to us.
We were raised in the faith. Our parents and teachers taught us to trust in God. On our better days, we trust with very little problem.
However, when something comes up in our lives that causes grief, or pain, or confusion, we begin to doubt our God. We find it much more difficult to have faith. We lose that trust in God.
There should be no reason for that.
God is a loving God who is constant in His care for us.
His love never diminishes.
His care never lessens.
His presence never leaves us.
We are the ones who lose our sight, who trust less, who care for other people or things rather than for God.
If we had faith the size of a mustard seed, imagine what could happen!
We say to ourselves, “It’s not possible. It’s not possible to move mountains. It’s not possible to expect the miraculous.”
Look at the great saints and what they did in their lives.
They did miraculous things. They “moved mountains”, perhaps not in the literal sense, but definitely in the figurative sense.
God is reminding us today that we, too, can move mountains, if we but had faith.
FAITH ACTION: In prayer this day, repeat slowly and deliberately, “Jesus, I trust in you.” Spend a good deal of time saying that. You will have a different outlook on your day when you finish that heartfelt prayer.
