Gotta Have Faith
A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him
and touched the tassel on his cloak.
She said to herself, “If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.”
Jesus turned around and saw her, and said,
“Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.”
And from that hour the woman was cured. (Mt 9:20-22)
Our readings this weekend and continuing into today are rich with the theme of faith. Yesterday, in our Gospel, we heard that Jesus could perform very few miracles in his home town because of the people’s dire lack of faith.
Faith is an important ingredient in our relationship with God.
Let’s face it, faith is an important ingredient in any relationship.
If we do not have faith in a person, a friendship will never build. Once that friendship builds into a solid relationship, if something happens that causes us to lose our faith and/or trust in that person, the relationship crumbles and fails.
We have to have faith in God in order for our relationship to build. God is waiting to show us what we need to see, to tell us what we need to hear, to do for us what we need accomplished.
However, in order for that to get done, we have to put our faith in Him.
A large part of that means that we have to trust that He knows what is best for us. If we ask God to give us what we need rather than try to stipulate what it is He is to give, how much better our lives would become!
FAITH ACTION: In quiet prayer this day, repeat for several minutes: “I place my life in your hands. Your will be done.” See what kind of peace comes into your heart.
